Application Process


National Conference for FM Residents and Medical Students (NCRS) Scholarships



12 scholarships to attend NCRS; weighted toward first time attendees who are not receiving other financial support.  Requires application, review and post-activity report.

NCRS Congress Delegate Travel Stipends



Stipends to attend NCRS for those attending as student or resident delegate to Congress or alternate delegate.


(4 x $600)

These are most often student and resident Council leaders. See Council member application for more information.

Delegates and Alternates will be selected in May 2019.

Medical Student Research Grant Program



Grants to help support a research project. Half of the stipend is given once the student qualifies and the other half is given after a final report is received.  CAFP-F applies to AAFP-F for $1,250/grant and pays the other half out of our funds.

Family Medicine Interest Groups



Funding support for FMIGs at all medical schools in California, including osteopathic programs. Allopathic programs receive $400 from CAFP-F and can receive $600 from AAFP's funding initiative. Osteopathic programs receive $1,000 from CAFP-F.

There is no application process for CAFP's funds.

AAFP's funding initiative application has closed for 2018 and will open again in fall of 2019.

Student and Resident Council



Councils help coordinate statewide student-resident activities and develop innovative ways to promote and advocate for family medicine in California. The councils set their own agenda for the academic year and talk quarterly. Council members have the opportunity to interact and meet at events including the Family Medicine Summit, National Conference, All Members Advocacy Meeting, and Procedural Workshops.

CAFP supports the attendance of co-chairs to BOD and BOT meetings, AMAM, and National Conference

Ten stipends for students and residents to attend the AMAM.

Residents’ Clinical Forum Poster Contest



This project supports the ACGME milestones for scholarly work.  Residents submit a research or case abstract. The review committee selects 20 for poster presentation at the CAFP's FM Clinical Forum, 10 of which are invited to present on the main stage.


($100 x 2 for winning poster prizes)
