Study: Many Young Women May Receive Unnecessary Pelvic Exams

According to an investigation published online in JAMA Internal Medicine, almost three-quarters of Pap tests performed on teen girls and young women may be unnecessary. These extraneous tests may be exposing these young women to preventable harms while generating considerable cost. 

The research, published last month, took a look at the prevalence of use of these tests in patients with no medical indication.
