Program Highlights and/or Unique Curriculum Components:
Our residency program is designed to family physicians to provide the highest quality care for urban underserved communities. We offer residents a comprehensive primary care education that emphasizes the social, economic, and cultural dimensions of health and illness. We actively promote collaborative, family-centered health care which supports and relies on our patients' autonomy, strenghts, and values. We are committed to anti-racist and anti-oppressive medical practice and education, and seek to attract residents, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds and inspire them to work toward broader social change.

We offer extremely strong clinical education for our residents, with a heavy inpatient emphasis. Our residents are passionate advocates, and we work to develop their advocacy and community engagement skills. We emphasize behavioral medicine education, inclusing addiction medicine. We believe in following the local community, and partnering respectfully with patients. We have an integrative medicine fellowship that focuses on providing integrative medicine that respects and uplifts the healing traditions of the patients we serve.

Faculty Composition:

Our faculty members are relatively diverse for academia, though we continue to work to increase diversity. 35% of our core faculty are from underrepresented backgrounds, with the following composition: 15% Black, 15% Latinx, 5% Filipino, 10% Chinese, 15% South Asian, and 40% white. Most of our core faculty members are physicians, and one associate program director is a family systems psychologist.
