This week, the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee voted to replace the Governor’s proposed “trigger cuts” with “trigger solutions.” This means that if the federal government does not step in to provide funding to states struggling with budget deficits, instead of cutting important programs, the state would take steps to raise revenue to protect those programs. The protected programs include the Song-Brown Primary Care Physician Training program, Medi-Cal benefits, and Proposition 56 funding for Medi-Cal rates and physician loan repayment. This does NOT mean that the fight to protect these programs is over.
