AB 890, allowing new categories of nurse practitioners (NPs) to practice with expanded authority under certain conditions was signed into law without the significant amendments for which CAFP had fought. While CAFP was not successful in significantly amending the bill, the bill is now law and the regulatory implementation process has begun. One of the first steps in the regulatory implementation of AB 890 is the formation of an NP Advisory Committee. The Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) has released the application for the NP Advisory Committee required by AB 890. The Committee is to include two physicians with demonstrated experience working with NPs, four NPs, and one public member.
