Jasmeet Bains joins the Ca. Women Lead Board

CAFP's very own Jasmeet Kaur Bains, M.D. has been named to CA Women Lead Board of Directors. Dr. Bains additionally serves as the Medical Director of Bakersfield Recovery Services overseeing substance abuse, addiction, and mental health rehabilitation for her community including pregnant women, which helps address the increasing maternal, and neonatal mortality rate in her community. Dr. Bains feels woman empowerment and success is necessary to help communities move forward and access to quality healthcare for women is key to addressing this. Dr. Bains additionally serves a Governor’s appointment as a Commissioner for the California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission, which gives her the opportunity to bring her experiences to Sacramento to provide a voice for rural and underserved healthcare.  In addition to serving on the California Developmental Services Taskforce, focusing on strengthening care for California’s population with Developmental Disabilities.

CA Women Lead's Board Chair, Mona Pasquil Rogers said, “We are excited to have her presence and perspective in the organization. There are incredible women in small towns and rural CA who, like Dr. Bains, are leaders in their communities.  We need to make sure we are supporting these women if they want to run for office, or serve on boards and commissions.”

Dr. Bains is a Board member for Kern Regional Center, and recently joined the Board of Global Family, which is a global organization working to combat human trafficking and protect at risk children and families who are victims of poverty, exploitation and abuse.

In 2019, CAFP awarded Dr. Bains Hero of Family Medicine for her ongoing advancement of Rural Medicine. She was additionally awarded the Community Partnership Award by the Taft College Transition to Independent Living Services Program for her work with the Developmentally and Intellectually Disabled population of Taft. She is also the recipient of the 2020 Rotarian of the Year awarded by the Taft Rotary for her work in Valley Fever research and her work in providing Global healthcare abroad.

Dr. Bains enjoys mentoring the youth of Kern County through her pipeline programs to help stimulate and empower youth interest in Primary Care and often travels with California State University Bakersfield pre-health students to provide free healthcare.
