Family physicians treat more patients and save more lives than any other medical specialists—and that standard physician payment levels often don’t reflect this value. Members are underpaid compared with physicians in other specialties, and on average, experience more challenges around burnout and career satisfaction. While increased family medicine payment and reduced burnout are top advocacy issues for the AAFP, members still need support navigating these career issues in their everyday practice environments.
That’s where you come in: your chapter’s outreach is a critical part of helping us get the data to fuel a new career benchmark dashboard comparison tool that can power negotiations and career advancement. Not only will the dashboard be more successful with more complete data, but in states where too few results were received, members will encounter a privacy screen that hides results.
What is the Career Benchmark Dashboard?
The family medicine career benchmark dashboard will be a first-of-its kind career transparency tool for the specialty. It will provide comprehensive compensation and job satisfaction data exclusively to members, allowing them to see how their income and more compare to peers in similar roles.
The dashboard allows users to filter for results by factors like:'
The survey landing page details why family physicians need the dashboard and includes examples of what the finished tool will look like.
Help to Make Sure Your State is Represented
The dashboard will launch in December, but we need your help now.
From Aug. 30 through Nov. 10, we’re asking all family physicians to complete a 5-10 minute anonymous survey to gather salary and career information to power the dashboard.
Here’s how you can help us spread the word in your state:
The survey will be promoted by the AAFP on the organization’s social media accounts, at conferences, from the FMX mainstage, and more.
If you have questions about the survey or the forthcoming career benchmark dashboard, please reach out to Vanessa Crawford Aragon.
