On January 31, Governor Newsom announced the appointment of Bradley Gilbert, MD as the new Director for the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Dr. Gilbert graduated from UC San Diego School of Medicine in 1983 and is board certified in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine. He previously worked at the Inland Empire Health Plan as medical director, chief medical officer, and chief executive officer. He also worked as the Director of Public Health for Riverside County San Mateo counties. He serves as a board member of the California Health Care Foundation, Planned Parenthood and Manifest Medex. CAFP looks forward to working with Dr. Gilbert to improve access to care for patients participating in state programs, and to build a foundation of primary care for all Californians. Dr. Gilbert has built a strong positive reputation, particularly in his ability to balance the business of health plan management and the needs of physicians and patients. We are excited to welcome him to the post.
