The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has created a clear pathway for federally funded clinics including FQHCs, tribal clinics, and rural health centers to bill and be reimbursed for abortion services without using any federal funds.
On September 1, the article “FQHC, RHC and Tribal Clinic Providers: Abortion Services” was posted to the Medi-Cal News area on the Medi-Cal Provider website. Effective October 1, 2022, DHCS Medi-Cal Program will reimburse FQHC, RHC, IHS-MOA and Tribal FQHC providers at a fee-for-service rate for abortion services.
