Congratulations to Art Ohannessian, MD, who was elected for a second term and will continue in his role as District IV Director on CAFP’s Board of Directors, beginning after the May 2020 Board meeting.
Art is a full-time faculty member and Associate Program Director for the UCLA Family Medicine Residency Program. In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Art has been a very active member of AAFP for the past decade through a variety of advocacy and leadership roles. As a prior past President of the Los Angeles Chapter, he was able to spearhead a community grant program that has now been supporting local medical students, residents, and vulnerable communities through a community grant application program. He served on the AAFP Commission on Education from 2015-2019, and was Chair of the Subcommittee on National Conference Planning from 2017-2019.
During Art's first term of service they were able to grow the conference to hit a record number for medical student and resident attendees, and expanded programming in the area of women’s reproductive health. During his first term as BOD District IV Director, Art helped advocate for the expansion of California Song-Brown graduate medical education grant fund to $100 million, and successfully advocated for it to be a permanent item on the California state budget. He supported and advocated for the expansion of women’s health coverage for students attending Cal State and UC schools and has led delegations of medical students and residents during multiple CAFP Lobby Days.
