This past weekend, CAFP’s Specialty Delegation attended CMA’s 151st Annual House of Delegates. CMA’s physician delegates meet annually to establish broad policy on current major issues that have been determined to be the most important issues affecting members, the association, and the practice of medicine. This year’s major issues are Physician Workforce, Health Care Reform, and Mental Health. CAFP’S Specialty Delegation continued to drive the message of the importance of incorporating primary care in any health care system and bringing awareness to the Primary care workforce shortage during the comment period for the major issues reports and CMA Delegation Caucus meeting. Due to these efforts, majority of CAFP’s Specialty Delegation recommendations were accepted and will be utilized as guiding policy.
Furthermore, CAFP members were selected to serve in various leadership positions. Family physician Dr. Jack Chou MD. was selected as the speaker for the CMA House of Delegates and family physician Dr. Kimberly Buss MD. was selected as the Vice-Chair of CMA’s Specialty Delegation Executive Committee.
