CAFP's sponsored bill, AB 85, authored by Assemblywoman Dr. Akilah Weber passed out of the Senate with overwhelming support in a 30-7 vote during the Senate floor session. The bill, to expand access to social determinants of health screenings and resources, will now return to its house of origin, the Assembly, for concurrence on amendments made by the Senate. The bill will then go to the Governor's office.
AB 85 is so close to becoming law! The next big hurdle will be ensuring the Governor signs the bill into law. The Governor has until October 14 to sign, approve without signing, or veto a bill. AB 85 would not have come this far without your calls, letters, emails and testimony. Please keep the momentum going. We are almost there!
In the upcoming week, CAFP will launch a grassroots effort for members to get AB 85 across the finish line by letting the Governor know AB 85 is an important part of addressing health inequities and improving health outcomes. Be on the lookout for your call to action in the next Leg Update.
