In November 2021, the CAFP Board of Directors adopted a new Strategic Plan, which outlined four priority goals with corresponding objectives, to be undertaken in the 2022-2024 Strategic Plan period. One of the top goals and objectives the Board identified was to “Prioritize Justice Through Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.”
In early January 2022, CAFP staff met to craft the annual work plan and design strategies and actions to accomplish the Board identified goals and objectives. Staff determined that in order to successfully implement the objective to “Integrate Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) into Physician Education, Training, and Leadership” CAFP would need to create a JEDI Task Force of physician leaders to guide those CAFP DEI efforts.
During the first half of 2022, staff collaborated with the Board Executive Committee to identify, recruit and finalize a JEDI Task Force of 9 physician members, representing a broad demographic of members, and with training or a strong interest in DEI. The Executive Committee also named a Committee Chair and Vice Chair from this group and approved the Task Force Charter.
The following CAFP members were selected to the JEDITask Force:
Shannon Connolly, MD, Orange Chapter – Chair
Melissa Campos, MD, San Diego Chapter – Vice Chair
Rob Assibey, MD, San Joaquin-Calaveras-Tuolumne Chapter
Mihal Emberton, MD, San Francisco Chapter
Caryssa Lim, MPH, Resident Representative, Los Angeles Chapter
Shani Muhammad, MD, Riverside-San Bernardino Chapter
Adia Scrubb, MD, Solano Chapter
Melissa Velez See, MD, Los Angeles Chapter
Brent Sugimoto, MD, Alameda-Contra Costa Chapter
CAFP Staff Liaison, Morgan Cleveland, Operations & Governance Manager
The full Task Force met recently for the first time for an Orientation in late August and will meet monthly through November.
