CAFP-Foundation Announces Winners of the 2025 Resident Poster Competition

The California Academy of Family Physicians Foundation (the Foundation) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Resident Poster Competition.

1. Case Presentation: Dr. Lovedip Kooner, a PGY-2 at Clinica Sierra Vista/Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Program - Bakersfield; Title: CBT for Lifestyle Modifications for Weight Management in Primary Care Setting in a FQHC
2. Research Presentation: Dr. Kevin Managuelod, a PGY-2 at Southwest Healthcare Medical Education Consortium (Palmdale) Program; Title: Baclofen-associated Extrapyramidal Symptoms in an End-Stage Renal Disease Patient on Hemodialysis

The 12th Annual Resident Poster Competition, which supports ACGME scholarly activity and provides a statewide platform for residents to present their work. The Foundation received 73 abstract submissions (the highest ever!), reviewed through a rigorous blinded process by members of the Foundation Board. Nineteen abstracts advanced to the poster round, and five finalists presented on stage in a fast-paced “2-slide, 2-minute, 2-question” format—moderated by Dr. Brad Styles, who brought extra energy with a JAWS-themed costume to the event.

Submissions were evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Clarity of the research and/or clinical question
• Study design and discussion and/or conclusion
• Originality of the project or question
• Relevance to family medicine, and
• Potential to improve patient care or resident skills, knowledge and performance.
