Congratulations to Shruti Javali, MD (Fresno) and Toussaint Mears-Clarke, MD, MBA, FAAFP (Sacramento), the new District VI & District X Directors on CAFP’s Board of Directors. Drs. Javali and Mears-Clarke were elected by their respective local chapter memberships following the All Member Advocacy Meeting and assumed their duties immediately as their Board representatives.
Dr. Javali currently serves as Immediate Past President of the Fresno-Kings-Madera Chapter. Nationally, Dr. Javali served as California’s International Medical Graduate (IMG) Delegate to the AAFP National Conference of Constituency Leaders (NCCL), Co-Convener of the IMG Constituency and represented member constituencies at the AAFP Congress of Delegates (COD).
“As a family physician and residency program director in California’s Central Valley, my work is rooted in rural and underserved communities.This experience continues to shape my advocacy priorities—particularly around access, workforce development, and policies that meaningfully support frontline physicians. In graduate medical education, I prioritize preserving the full scope of family medicine through strong training environments and intentional program development. I believe this is essential to the future of our specialty and closely tied to effective advocacy at the state level.”
Dr. Mears-Clarke is a past President of the Sacramento Valley Chapter and former CAFP Board DX Alternate Director, as well as past NCCL Delegate, Co-Convener of the NCCL LGBTQ+ Constituency and represented member constituencies at the AAFP Congress of Delegates.
“As a family physician, educator, and Program Director for the Family Medicine/Obstetrics Fellowship at Dignity Health Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, I have dedicated my career to training the next generation of full-spectrum family physicians while actively engaging in leadership at the local, state, and national levels. Through my work with the CAFP and the American Academy of Family Physicians, I have fostered a strong commitment to advocacy and advancing equitable care. I believe deeply in the power of family medicine and its ability to meet the evolving needs of our communities and am eager to represent and amplify the voices of physicians.”
