Family Physician Jasmeet Bains, MD is running for California State Assembly District 35. Despite being a first-time candidate, Dr. Bains finished the primaries neck in neck with her opponent. The result is truly remarkable, and she is now heading to the November general election with real strength and momentum. After setting up and treating patients in COVID field hospitals at the beginning of the pandemic, Dr. Bains was so horrified by access issues and inequities that she was inspired to make policy change to improve access to quality healthcare by running for office.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Bains returned home to the Central Valley and completed her residency at Clinica Sierra Vista in Kern County, choosing to work in underserved healthcare settings. Today, she serves as Medical Director at Bakersfield Recovery Services overseeing substance abuse, addiction, and mental health rehabilitation. She was appointed by then Governor Brown to the California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission and was awarded the 2019 Hero of Family Medicine by the California Academy of Family Physicians, and the 2021 Beautiful Bakersfield Award from the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce.
This is our chance to bring the FM revolution to the California Legislature. When elected, Dr. Bains will fight for policies important to family physicians, patients, and California’s Central Valley. To do so, Dr. Bains needs your support to get her message out. To donate to Dr. Bains’s campaign click here.
