Program Highlights and/or Unique Curriculum Components:
The Morehouse School of Medicine Dominican Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Santa Cruz, California, was established to address health equity. We will be interviewing medical students in the Fall 2023 and welcome our first residents to start our 3-year program dedicated to training full spectrum, culturally competent family physicians in July 2024. While ‘new’, our program is well-grounded as part of graduate medical education that was started at Morehouse School of Medicine in 1981 and CommonSpirit/Dignity Health, who sponsors GME programs which have served communities for more than half a century, currently training more than 2,000 residents nationally.
Faculty Composition:
Despite being a "new" program the faculty have over a 100 years of GME and UME experience with Dr Suarez having been director for OB fellowship, Dr Zane as director medical student programs and Osteopathic Curriculum, most of the inpatient faculty with prior teaching roles and many other examples such that our faculty represents an experienced team dedicated to supporting our residents as a program of excellence.
Spouse/Family Opportunities
Being family oriented, spouses and family have many professional and personal options locally and as part of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. With world class beach and ocean activities as well as the magic of the Redwoods and mountains available, Santa Cruz offers unparalleled gifts for those attracted to such.
