Program Highlights and/or Unique Curriculum Components:
Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Family Medicine is an unopposed program, affiliated with UCLA School of Medicine. Our focus is academic excellence through didactics, full-spectrum hands-on patient care, and one-on-one teaching. Residents are assigned a panel of adult and pediatric patients in our family medicine clinic and are given the resources, including their own desk in an office shared with 2 other residents, assigned medical assistants and nurses, and full ancillary services to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to our diverse patients, many of whom have complex medical problems. Our residents are given progressive independence on inpatient medicine until they are prepared to practice as a hospitalist if desired. Our residents take care of underserved patients in our two community-based free clinics, as well as our school-based teen clinic. We have strong procedural, dermatology and pediatric training and a good balance of inpatient and outpatient training, including point-of-care ultrasound, advocacy, health policy and global health. Individualized mentorship allows our residents to achieve diverse career goals and we provide flexibility to allow residents to meet these goals. Since we are part of a larger fully integrated organization, we can offer electives in all areas of residents’ interest. Our residents have gone on to work in diverse work environments, including outpatient family medicine, hospitalist practices, urgent care, addiction medicine, obstetrics, international medicine, FQHC’s, academic medicine, and a wide variety of leadership positions. We also offer our own community medicine/junior faculty fellowship and have a very strong track record of our residents matching to the fellowships of their choice.
