Program Highlights and/or Unique Curriculum Components:
We have several curricular components that we feel are very unique to our program. Firstly, we have a very robust osteopathic manual manipulation track that has pathways for both osteopathic and allopathic residents to join to learn and advance their OMT skills. This track includes participation in an OMT clinic within our Family Medicine Center, weekly Journal Club and Skills development, quarterly workshops for the community where we offer osteopathic CME, and opportunities for inpatient consults.
Secondly, we offer an Integrative Medicine track in partnership with the University of Arizona Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Through UofA we offer an series of online lectures and educational components and pair that with an IM consultative service within our FMC. In addition, we plan to offer group visits for lifestyle and culinary medicine. We believe that those who graduate from the track will be well suited to provide IM care for patients and if residents desire, position them well to be accepted to an IM Fellowship.
Our Sports Medicine Curriculum is unique in that we have made it longitudinal over the course of the 3 years of residency training. All of our residents are assigned to on of the local high schools or community college and are paired with the designated Athletic Trainer at that site to provide the sports medicine coverage for those schools. This includes but is not limited to performing sports physicals, sideline coverage for particular sports, educational lectures for students/coaches/families, and providing care in an injury clinic, and rotating with one of our local FM/ Sports Medicine trained community physicians. We believe this provides an extensive sports medicine experience that sets residents up to gain entry into a fellowship program.
