California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is collecting data on variant sequences from a variety of different sources to assemble a picture of the different strains currently circulating in California. The variant strains shown in the tables below are those CDC has designated a variant being monitored or a variant of concern of interest. CDC maintains a listing of these variants and displays the prevalence of the variants of concern circulating in the United States by state. CDPH is working with federal, local and academic partners to better understand how variants might impact Californians, including if they have any differences in their response to vaccination.
