We are starting the new year with exciting changes on our board of trustees! The CAFP Foundation welcomes a new president and board member, who offer diverse leadership strengths to support our mission of nurturing the next generation of family physicians.
All of our board members have rich experiences in the family medicine specialty, bringing perspectives from non-profit, philanthropy, and education. We look forward to the team’s desire to shape our work, and the opportunity to enhance diverse views and fresh ideas -- which are vitally important to realizing our vision and fulfilling our mission.
Parastou Farhadian MD, CPE, FAAFP is the founding Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Mission Community Hospital in Los Angeles. In addition, she is the Chief Medical Officer at Santo Niño Health Center and the Director of Graduate Medical Education at Mission Community Hospital. Dr. Farhadian's dedication to medical education extends to her position as Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Before joining Mission Community Hospital in 2022, Dr. Farhadian served for seven years as the Program Director of the RUHS/UCR Family Medicine Residency Program in Moreno Valley, CA, the same program where she completed her residency training in 2010.
Dr. Farhadian is a proud member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) since 2007 and has earned distinction as a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) through the American Association for Physician Leadership. She is also a graduate of the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) fellowship. Her expertise and influence in Family Medicine are further recognized through her service as a board member-at-large for the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD).
In addition to her professional pursuits, Dr. Farhadian enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.
Soomin Jung, MD was born in Korea, and is a 1.5 generation Korean-American who calls Los Angeles county her home. Soomin had a passion for medicine ever since she was a child, and had the desire to practice full spectrum medicine in LA county. She has successfully completed Family Medicine residency at California Hospital Medical Center/Morehouse School of Medicine in Downtown Los Angeles. She has achieved her dream of becoming the first doctor in her family, and has recently started her practice with UCLA Health in Santa Clarita Valley along with becoming a Health Sciences Clinical Instructor with UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.
During residency training, many of Soomin’s attending doctors introduced and encouraged her to attend AFP-related conferences and activities. She started out with involvement with Los Angeles Academy of Family Physician (LAAFP) along with CAFP-Foundation’s Student/Resident council. Her involvement with LAAFP eventually led to change of LAAFP’s by-law to have resident and student members on the board, where she became the first resident board member of LAAFP. She graduated with multiple awards from her residency program, including 2024 STFM Resident Teacher Award and 2024 AFMRD Family Medicine Resident Award for Advocacy. She also received the 2024 CAFP Foundation Resident of the Year.
Through the joy she has found through CAFP and CAFP Foundations, Soomin has promised herself to serve others in the field of family medicine, just as her predecessors have done for her. She is looking forward to her continued journey in investing into residents and students through her new role as one of the CAFP Foundation Board of Trustees.
