Congratulations to Brent Sugimoto, MD, who will step in to the role of District VIII Director on CAFP’s Board of Directors after the April 2021 Board meeting.
Dr. Sugimoto has been elected to the position which is being vacated because current Director, Dr. Shani Muhammad, has relocated to another region. Dr. Sugimoto will represent the Alameda-Contra Costa, San Joaquin-Calaveras-Tuolomne and Stanislaus county chapters.
As president of the Alameda-Contra Costa chapter, Dr. Sugimoto has sought to bring in new voices through figuring out how to engage more members in the geographically spread-out chapter and by working with local residencies. Doing so has not only strengthened local professional networks, but also broadened the chapter’s exposure to diverse perspectives on how to tackle common problems we all face in medicine.
As district director, he seeks to similarly strive to raise engagement throughout a district that encompasses Alameda, Calaveras, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne counties. Throughout this swath of land, from rural to urban, from large practice to solo office, and in all the practice settings imaginable, collectively, we benefit from the talents unique to each and every family doctor. A not insignificant additional benefit is strengthened connection with each other, a need many of us understand so much more deeply with the disruptions and isolation we have faced this past year.
During his tenure, Dr. Sugimoto seeks to draw the strands linking city to city, county to county, and member to member, so that we lay the foundations for greater connection amongst all of us, and a greater understanding of what we can accomplish as a collective voice.
