Dear financial advisor: My wife and I are having a very hard time with Salliemae. We have recently had a child and had to place loan payments on deferement. However, not everyone of those loans recieved part of the payment that we made (which Salliemae is responsible for distributing) and one loan went into default, Salliemae claims they are unable to recover it, and now we have a lean on our bank account. This is actually my wife's loan, my bank account. Is there is a number I can call to get financial/Legal advice on this issue? Is there a state program that can buy our private loans in exchange for service in underserved areas? We would still make the payments, of course, except without beeing made to feel like criminals when we call in for questions or for loan modifications.
