2010 Family Medicine Summit: Highlights
The Family Medicine Summit is a periodic event that provides a forum to discuss compelling issues in family medicine education and training. Along with community partners, CAFP hosts this event in order to create a unique learning environment consisting of California's family medicine residency program directors, family medicine department chairs, chief residents, student representatives, and thought leaders in family medicine.
The February 2010 meeting focused on innovations in the family medicine education and training curriculum addressing: the Patient Centered Medical Home, the development of future leaders in family medicine, and advocacy for the future of family medicine. Leaders in medical education focused their sessions on three essential themes:
- Ways to prepare tomorrow's family physicians for leadership;
- Current strategies, methods, and technology in practice as they relate to the medical home; and
- New opportunities for family medicine residents and family physicians to achieve fulfilling practices in family medicine.
More than 115 attendees joined us to learn about promising practices and programs, learn from the experts about challenges and opportunities facing the specialty, and network with their peers.

We would like to recognize and thank several organizations and committees for providing their generous support. This event would not be possible without the support of Northern and Southern California Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit, Pfizer, and the CAFP Foundation.
