The San Diego Chapter (SDAFP) elected new president Melissa Vourlitis, DO to lead the chapter in its mission to enhance, strengthen and promote the specialty of family medicine in San Diego.  All new chapter officers were inducted during the annual Installation of Officers Dinner on February 6.  CAFP President-Elect Tom Bent, MD addressed the crowd with an update on Academy activities and thanked everyone for their continued support of the specialty.  Outgoing chapter President Darren Farnesi, MD received a certificate of appreciation from California Assemblymember Joel Anderson (R-El Cajon) in recognition of his service to the community and family medicine.

In addition, two medical student scholarships were awarded to second- and fourth-year medical students interested in specializing in family medicine.  The scholarship recipients are Flor Mounts and Ryan Yoon of University of California, San Diego.  Both had outstanding academic records and experience providing health care to patients at the UCSD Free Clinic.  The SDAFP is proud to provide scholarships to these high achieving individuals.
