Grassroots Advocacy Saves CAFP's Medical Home Bill in Senate; More Work To Be Done
CAFP's
sponsored bill to define the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) achieved a
major victory late last night when AB 1542 (Jones) passed out of the
State Senate. The Academy's success was thanks largely to family physician Key
Contacts throughout the state who called their legislators and urged them to
vote for the bill. Legislative rules
required the bill be returned to the Assembly for a final vote, however, and it
didn't have enough votes to pass before the midnight deadline. Fortunately, the fight isn't over yet! AB 1542 contains an urgency clause, meaning
it can be heard in the coming weeks when the Assembly deliberates on the
state budget.
CAFP sends heartfelt thanks to all the Key Contacts who sprang into action last night, as well to the many other organizations and their lobbyists who helped pass the bill. The Academy will be asking all Key Contacts to call their Assemblymembers to continue the fight for this PCMH definition bill, so please stay tuned for action alerts containing CAFP talking points.
