Judge Blocks 10 Percent Cut to Medi-Cal Pay

On February 1, a federal judge issued a ruling that prevents the State of California from implementing a 10 percent cut in payment rates to physicians who provide care to patients in the Medi-Cal program. CAFP supported the lawsuit, filed by the California Medical Association and other health care organizations, which brought about this injunction. CAFP continues its advocacy efforts to put an end to the state's repeated efforts to reduce physician pay so severely that many physicians would be unable to continue seeing Medi-Cal patients.

CAFP released a media statement about this decision. It is available here.

On February 6, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced it has denied the state’s request to implement co-pays for Medi-Cal patients.  CAFP had opposed these co-pays, viewing them as yet another barrier to patient access to physician services.
