10 Easy Ways to be a Family Medicine Champion

  1. WEAR your CAFP pin.  You are an ambassador for CAFP and family medicine wherever you go.  Wear your pin to strike up conversations with your patients, students, and fellow physicians about key health issues. Request a pin here.

  2. RECRUIT a medical student, resident, or colleague to join CAFP.  Speak with your family physician peers about your positive experiences as a CAFP member and encourage them to lend support to strengthen the voice of California family physicians.  Invite a colleague to a local chapter meeting or CAFP's Annual Scientific Assembly.

  3. VOLUNTEER to serve on a committee, coordinate a chapter event, or represent your peers at the Congress of Delegates.  For detailed information about leadership opportunities, click here.

  4. CONTRIBUTE to the CAFP social media network.  Comment on our blog postings (FP forum, legislative advocacy, resident), bookmark and share an Academy in Action eNewsletter article with colleagues, or post upcoming events and information pertinent to family physicians through the CAFP Facebook group.

  5. JOIN your local chapter's mailing list.  Subscribe to your chapter's email distribution list to stay informed of upcoming events.  Not sure whom to contact for chapter activities?  Click here for a list of chapters and local contacts.

  6. PARTICIPATE in the CAFP Foundation Summer Preceptorship Program.  Help foster future family physicians by precepting a first-year medical student for four weeks in your practice setting.  Additional information and an application can be found here.

  7. ADD to the CAFP knowledge base.  Write an article for the California Family Physician quarterly magazine, become a reviewer of CAFP publications, consider contributing to a blog or commenting on others' health blogs, or offer to speak at a chapter event.

  8. NOMINATE a colleague or yourself to be a CAFP member of the month.  Help your Academy identify and recognize family medicine champions by contacting CAFP.

  9. DONATE to the CAFP Foundation.  Invest in the future of family medicine by making a tax-deductible donation today at http://www.cafpfoundation.org/donatetoday.html.  The CAFP Foundation funds educational programming to foster the next generation of family physicians.

  10. BECOME A FRIEND of the CAFP Facebook Group.  Stay connected with CAFP and network with other CAFP members by signing up on Facebook.
